Don’t Believe the New York Knicks and ‘Melo Hype, It’s a Sequel!

This must be a tough pill going down the throats of the New York Knicks and their fans as the team became victims of a Boston Celtics sweep, becoming the 2011 NBA Playoffs first victims. In the first two games (87-85 and 96-93 Celtics victories), the Knicks could have easily been the victors in both. However, in the end, it was the Celtics' championship pedigree and experience that helped them pull away and score just enough points to win. Emotionally, it had to be debilitating to come so close, but come up with the loss despite valiant efforts on the road.

Jose Bautista has more than home run swing

Jose Bautista, the reigning Major League home run king, temporarily took the lead in long balls on Saturday afternoon; blasting two line drives over the left field wall off of Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price to bring his total to seven. Neither were majestic shots Toronto Blue Jays fans have come to love in their slugging right fielder, nor were they enough to get a win for the team, but as far as personal accomplishments go, Bautista is certainly making the most of his prime baseball years.

Milwaukee Brewers extend Ryan Braun five years early

The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Thursday that they and All-Star left fielder Ryan Braun have reached an agreement to extend Braun’s contract through the 2020 season, adding $105 million to his bank account. This deal is a bit surprising, if not confusing. There didn’t seem to be any rush to lock up Braun long-term, but now that they have, there will be a lot of second-guessing the decision, especially the economic impact it will have on the Brewers long-term.

One of the worst things you can do when you have an opponent on the ropes is give them a reason to push on; a reason to keep fighting and, perhaps, a reason to snatch victory from your waiting grasp. That’s exactly what the Vancouver Canucks gave to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night, dropping a 7-2 Game 4 decision in a situation in which they could have punched their ticket to the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

Boston Bruins in do or die situation against Montreal Canadiens

The Boston Bruins beat themselves on Saturday night, falling 3-1 to the Montreal Canadiens in game two of their playoff series and going behind two games to none. The Bruins announced late that Zdeno Chara wouldn’t play, and they couldn’t compensate for their noticeably smaller blue line as the Canadiens infiltrated the Boston zone often. At the other end, Habs goalie Carey Price was spectacular again, stopping 34 of 35 shots in the win.

Barry Bonds was found guilty of one count of obstruction of justice, but beat three other charges and still owns MLB's home run record. Rory McIlroy lost on the last day of the Masters, but still has a hot girlfriend named Holly Sweeney. Regardless, listen up they both get an "In Your Face!"

Boston Red Sox first to reach double-digit losses

The Boston Red Sox fell to 2-10 on the season after losing a tough game to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. Adam Lind hit a controversial three-run home run in the first inning that was reversed after a replay, but that only resulted in a 7-6 loss instead. Bobby Jenks was hammered in the 7th inning, taking his first loss as a member of the Red Sox and becoming the seventh man on the staff with an “L” in just 12 games.

NBA Playoffs: Eastern Conference Preview

The 2011 NBA Playoffs kicks off on Saturday, April 16th with the Eastern Conference's top-seeded Chicago Bulls matching up against the eighth-seeded Indiana Pacers at 1PM ET on ESPN. It's appropriate that the Bulls start the NBA postseason since they are also the NBA's top-seeded team, earning homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs with a regular season record of 62-20. So, how do the Eastern Conference series shake out for all of the playoff participants? Peep the preview below.
1. Chicago Bulls (62-20) vs. 8. Indiana Pacers (37-45)
The Pacers (24-17 at home; 13-28 on the road) are almost a vagabond group that made the playoffs due to the overall weakness of the Eastern Conference as they are the only under-.500 team in the postseason. They made a spirited effort when assistant Frank Vogel was named interim head coach, going 20-18 and obviously made the playoffs. Danny Granger is the top talent in the group and while Darren Collison was a bit of a disappointment, other players stepped up their games, particularly Tyler Hansbrough, Josh McRoberts and Roy Hibbert. Rookie Paul George also showed flashes of big-time ability.
However, the Bulls will be too much for the Pacers who seem disjointed compared to the smooth-running machine that is the Bulls. Prediction: Bulls in four games.
